Visually Impaired Artist

As a high school senior I was diagnosed with a degenerative retina disease called Stargardt’s. Slowly year after year I am losing my central vision. During the COVID shutdown I took some online painting classes for fun and was surprised with how much I enjoyed it. Since then, I have played around with different mediums and taken more classes. I have found watercolor to be my favorite. I love the way I can move the paint to discover the picture as I go. I don’t see detail in my central vision, so I don’t worry about detail in my paintings. I love to paint the way nature feels, more than capturing exactly how it looks. I am moved to paint the colors and shapes of the natural world.
